Assignment One - whoo hoo!
Computer Applications
SEM 1 2004
Branden Barber
branden.barber@rmit.edu.au
Assignment One – Digital Image Collage or Montage or Creative Combination of Images to Create a Surreal or Surprising Result
Work on this in class and/or out. You’ll have time this class and the next to create:
Collage/Montage: A combination of images – found or taken – that promote, amplify or support a message, event or product. Feel free to mock up an ad, promotion, political or community information message. Make a Culture Jamming anti-ad (see www.adbusters.org)Combine images creatively using the skills we’ve learned in Photoshop.
OR
Creative Combination of Images to Create a Surreal or Surprising Result: Indeed, just what it says. USE your IMPECCABLE skill in isolating and removing subjects from within images to create an interesting effect or result.
An example of this can be seen at www.divatalephoto.com, www.dianefenster.com, and my fave, www.gregglauer.com
Project should be on an A3 sized canvas and the resolution should be 72 dpi – to limit file size. If this is going to be printed then you are welcome to boost the DPI to 144 – if larger then just let me know. If smaller then let me know (as in, I wanted to do a CD cover…)
Assignments will be assessed on quality of image blends in Photoshop, overall design and creativity.
Assignments are due in class, first thing, on the 14th of May. You will have some time in class to work on these next Friday, the 7th of May, alongside your in-class exercises and photography. So you may wish to do this outside of class as possible.
