33 - not 44 - assignments give you a final product

So - I'm expecting 33 items in the In-Class Exercises folder with your name on it.

;-)

B

In-Class Assignments and In-Class Photos - submission

Hello friends!

I want to make sure that you are credited for your efforts in class for the assignments that we have been doing throughout the semester - both the assignments from Scott Kelby's Fabulous Book - as well as the images that you captured with the digital cameras.

In the Audio Production Server:

In Class Assignments folder should have:

1 folder with your name (branden.barber) as the label of the folder. Within that folder you should have all 44 of the In-Class assignments. It would be preferable - please - if they were labeled by number so it corresponds with the column list at right - and that they were named accordingly.

NOTE: you should have all 44 - NO - 33! - (not all of them gave you a final product...some were more "follow these steps and move on...") of the assignments that were listed in class and at the column at right.

Student Photo Folder should have:

1 folder with your name (branden.barber) as the label of the folder. WIthin that folder you should have a folder for each of the 6 weeks that you were sent out to take photographs. Additionally I would like you to include the DOUBLE SELF-PORTRAIT image you created in class in this folder. The folders should be labeled, Wk1, Wk2, Wk3, etc.

All of these will be combined to give you a max percentage of 25% towards your final mark.

Any questions please email me or call me - branden.barber@rmit.edu.au
or 0402 224 218

Thank you for your efforts!

FINAL ASSIGNMENT - #3

Assignment THREE - Showing off your work (25%)

DUE: BEGINNING of THE LAST class on the 18th of June.

There will be an in-class judging as well as FABBULOUS PRIZES!

You will be creating a multimedia application to showcase some of your work in this class.

Work must include:

(2) of your in-class assignment final images.
(5) of your in-class photography - choose the BEST PHOTOGRAPHS you've taken.

Using either PowerPoint or one of Flash's slide show templates, you will create a beautiful presentation of your work. Your assignment must include unique titles for each item as well as custom colours and fonts.

If you choose to use PowerPoint, you must use tasteful transitions and incorporate a background sound file for your presentation. You must also create a version that uses OVER THE TOP animations, transitions and sounds.

So for the PowerPoint option there are two files to create.

If you choose the Flash slide show, as long as your slide show has backwards and forward buttons and is 9 frames in length, that will be acceptable. You should use unique identifiers for each image - such as a title and a description. If you use fades or other transitions between frames then you will receive a better mark.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: On CD and placed on the server under Audio Production in the folder, "Final Assignment", in a subsequent folder that has your FIRST.LAST name as the title.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: You will be assessed according to the level of competency you use in your project. Clearly viewable work and a tasteful presentation will ensure your work is celebrated. Consider me a client for whom you are creating the presentation - "I'm paying you for it, so I'd better like it." Is my attitude.

Make sure to have this done in class when we begin - get it loaded onto the server ASAP so we can move into the judging.

Assignment TWO - Building on Strengths

DUE: 4th of June in class. Time can be used in class on the 4th to finish OR you can begin work on the final assignment, a "multimedia slideshow", which will be due first thing in class on the 18th of June.

Digital Image Collage or Montage or Creative Combination of Images to Create a Surreal or Surprising Result - YES!

Based on the work you did in the first assignment, you are encouraged to take this to the next level. Feedback from the first assignment should be taken on board for the second assignment and your final produce should be an obvious improvement or evolution from the first.

Work on this in class and out. You'll have time this class and the next to create:

Collage/Montage: A combination of images - found or taken - that promote, amplify or support a message, event or product. Feel free to mock up an ad, promotion, political or community information message. Make a Culture Jamming anti-ad (see www.adbusters.org) Combine images creatively using the skills we've learned in Photoshop.

OR

Creative Combination of Images to Create a Surreal or Surprising Result: Indeed, just what it says. USE your IMPECCABLE skill in isolating and removing subjects from within images to create an interesting effect or result.

An example of this can be seen at www.divatalephoto.com, www.dianefenster.com, and my fave, www.gregglauer.com.

SUGGESTED FORMAT: An A3 sized canvas if you wish a poster-sized result - although bear in mind that found images on the Internet will be smaller than optimal for this size. A4 is acceptable. If you have a special target, such as a CD cover, then feel free to design it in a square instead of a rectangle. Optimal resolution for display on screen is 72 dpi - 150 - 350 for print.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: I'll be happy with a JPG file submitted with a copy of the original base image (sort of a before and after for me to go by.) On CD and/or in class placed on the server.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: You will be assessed according to the level of competency you use in your project. More layers, creative and clean blends, subjects removed from their original images MOST EFFECTIVELY, creative use of effects - and an overall attention to creating a single, seamless blend of images that becomes one - these will be taken into account.

Photoshop is to be the base application - if you use any others please include that information in your submission as an attached or accompanying text file.

Assignment One – Digital Image Collage or Montage or Creative Combination of Images to Create a Surreal or Surprising Result

Work on this in class and/or out. You’ll have time this class and the next to create:

Collage/Montage: A combination of images – found or taken – that promote, amplify or support a message, event or product. Feel free to mock up an ad, promotion, political or community information message. Make a Culture Jamming anti-ad (see www.adbusters.org)Combine images creatively using the skills we’ve learned in Photoshop.

An example of this can be seen at www.divatalephoto.com, www.dianefenster.com, and my fave, www.gregglauer.com

Project should be on an A3 sized canvas and the resolution should be 72 dpi – to limit file size. If this is going to be printed then you are welcome to boost the DPI to 144 – if larger then just let me know. If smaller then let me know (as in, I wanted to do a CD cover…)

Assignments will be assessed on quality of image blends in Photoshop, overall design and creativity.

Assignments are due in class, first thing, on the 14th of May. You will have some time in class to work on these next Friday, the 7th of May, alongside your in-class exercises and photography. So you may wish to do this outside of class as possible.
